Nadezhda
Ladygina-Kohts was an outstanding world-famous scientist and the country's
first female zoopsychologist. The book “The Chimpanzee Child and the Human
Child” (1935), to which she devoted 16 years of her life, brought her worldwide
fame and recognition. Nadezhda Nikolaevna was also a reliable support for her
husband, Alexander Kohts, in the creation of the Darwin Museum - more than once
the family abandoned their own well-being in favor of preserving and increasing
the museum collections. A courageous woman who continued to be involved in
science and the museum even after the Revolution, which turned the world upside
down, and during the difficult years of World War II, and during the time of
Stalinist repressions. She was also a beloved and loving wife. Despite all the
difficulties, the Kohts couple were always together and were married for more
than half a century.
A loving
wife and tender mother, an inquisitive scientist and the country's first female
zoopsychologist, the founder of the world's first museum of evolution - this is
how we know our Nadezhda Ladygina-Kohts. And it is precisely this multifaceted personality
that we tried to show at the exhibition “Her Museum, Book, and Portrait” (until
July 14), which turned out to be very bright and light, just like Nadezhda.
